The Journey Begins

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

I had never taken a long-haul plane trip before. If this trip was any indication of how long plane rides usually go, I am all in. We flew from La Crosse to Minneapolis, Minneapolis to Seattle, then on to Beijing (Comfort+, which is just a step-up from the economy ticket) . We stayed in Beijing overnight at a hotel close to the airport and made our connecting flight to Luoyang the next morning. Delta took great care to make our flights easy and comfortable, especially on the long-haul portion which lasted almost 12 hours. No kidding, the amenities and attention from the flight crew made it feel almost effortless and it was a truly relaxing experience. Early the next morning we boarded China Eastern Airlines for our “domestic” flight to Luoyang. We opted for first class tickets, due to the luggage limitations on the economy fare, and the difference in ticket price was only $50. We were treated with great hospitality and were afforded many conveniences from the moment we checked our baggage. Although we had challenges communicating with words, we were completely cared for and welcomed. I am so grateful for my traveling companions, for Leah brings travel expertise and organization and Wesley keeps us connected and relaxed. Looking forward…
